Website speed checker
Type your address and see how fast your site really loads, with the first-byte time, page weight, and the health signals that decide whether it feels quick. Plain English, no jargon wall.
We load your page once from our server and rate-limit per connection to keep it fair.
What we check
The things that make a site feel fast
These are the signals we look at first when a site feels slow. Most of them come down to the host, and most of them are quick to fix.
First-byte time
How long the server takes to start responding. A slow first byte is almost always the host, not the page, and it is the single clearest sign you have outgrown cheap hosting.
Total load time and page weight
How long the main document takes to arrive and how heavy it is. Past a couple of seconds, real visitors start leaving, especially on phones.
HTTPS and security posture
Whether the site is served over an encrypted connection. Browsers flag plain http as not secure, and it quietly hurts search ranking. A free certificate fixes it.
Compression and caching
Whether responses are compressed and carry caching hints. Both are easy, standard speed wins that good hosting turns on by default, and many hosts simply do not.
Questions
Site speed, answered
- Is this speed checker free?
- Yes, completely. No signup, no trial, no credit card. It is the same first pass our engineers run when someone says their site feels slow.
- My first byte is slow. Is that my fault?
- Usually not. First-byte time measures how long the server takes to respond before your page even starts rendering. When it is high, the cause is almost always the hosting, which is exactly the kind of thing moving to a faster host fixes.
- What is a good load time?
- Under about two and a half seconds for the main document is a reasonable target, and faster is better. Compression, caching, and a quick server all push it down. We tell you which of those are missing.
- Why does a hosting company give this away?
- Because slow sites are a hosting problem and fixing them is what we do. Some people read the results and tune things themselves, and that is fine. Some decide they would rather a host that just handles it and answers the phone, and that is us.
Slow is a hosting problem. We fix hosting.
If your first byte is slow or your speed signals are missing, you should not have to tune servers yourself. UpperLevel handles speed, caching, and SSL, and a real person answers in under five minutes.
